1. Sensitivity to hair care products, or contact dermatitis.
Regular shampoos may contain chemicals that irritate a sensitive scalp. Using a natural homemade shampoo, like the following apple cider recipe, may be a better option.
2. A yeast-like fungus, or malassezia:
Apple cider vinegar supposedly has anti-fungal properties, and thus may (key word is "may") combat dandruff caused by fungi.
3. Irritated, oily skin, or seborrheic dermatitis:
Apple cider vinegar mixed with lemon juice may combat an oily scalp.
There are many other causes of dandruff, so it is best to speak with your dermatologist to determine the source and find a proper solution. Whether an apple cider vinegar shampoo is the answer, I am not sure, but here is the recipe:
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR SHAMPOO
Ingredients:
*1 oz. Olive oil
*1 Egg
*1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
*1 teaspoon Pure Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
Instructions:
- Combine the given ingredients into a blender for about a minute. Then shampoo as usual.
- Lean your head over a sink and carefully pour the mixture over your entire scalp.
- Wrap your head in a towel for 15 minutes.
- Unwrap head and then wash hair as usual.
MIXOLOGISTS:
You may want to try another oil in place of olive oil. The lady I met uses sage oil to further combat and cleanse an oily scalp and to minimize the scent of the apple cider vinegar; she skips on the lemon juice.
